The town is composed mostly of Dummer Academy and Gorham Academy Grants, and Hamlin's Gore (sometimes incorrectly called "Hamlin's Grant")
Boundary Changes
Two lots were set off to Paris in 1825; an additional estate was set off to that town in 1827, and partly reannexed in 1841, along with another half-lot; a portion of the estate set off in 1827 was set off again in 1880
Part of Milton Plantation (now Milton Township) was annexed in 1853
Hamlin's Gore Plantation (organized in 1826) was annexed in 1872
One lot from Greenwood was annexed in 1893
