1848 as the town of Mansel from part of Mount Desert; name changed the same year to Tremont

Hardwood and Robinson's (now Tinker) Islands were annexed in 1859 from the defunct town of Seaville (incorporated in 1838 from part of Mount Desert)
Land was set off to form Southwest Harbor in 1905
