Cumberland County (set off from York County in 1760)
Incorporated
1658 from Black Point, Blue Point and islands; included the western edge of Spurwink, which now lies mostly in Cape Elizabeth; deserted in 1690, but reestablished in 1718

That land lying between the Spurwink and Saco Rivers was anciently referred to as Black Point (or Cammock's Patent); Stratton Island was another regional name
Dunston (Dunstan) once referred to the tract between the Scarboro and Nonesuch Rivers

Land was set off to Saco in 1841, and to Gorham in 1864
Stratton Island and Bluff Island (now in Old Orchard Beach) were set off at some point
