The entire region at the double bend in the Kennebec River near Skowhegan was once called Norridgewock; other regional names were Goshen, Hebron, and Kennebec (in Skowhegan)

Boundary Changes

Part of East Pond Plantation (later Smithfield) was annexed in 1836, and part of the Stephen D. Burgess farm in Smithfield was annexed in 1852

Parts of Fairfield were annexed in 1834 and 1841, part of Madison in 1846, parts of Mercer in 1849 and 1852, and part of Starks in 1907

Land was set off to Milburn (later Skowhegan) in 1828, and additional land was set off to that town in 1856
