Somerset County (set off from Lincoln County to Kennebec County in 1799, to Somerset County in 1809)

Before 1860 as Flagstaff Plantation; organization confirmed and made valid in 1865; organized in 1870 for election purposes; successor to the former plantation organized in 1895; organization surrendered in 1951, the settlement being drowned with the damming of the Dead River
