Incorporated

1794 as New Milford from part of Pownalborough (now Wiscasset); name changed to Alna in 1811

Part of the Plymouth Claim (Kennebec Purchase); North Precinct of Pownalborough

Anciently those parts of Newcastle and Alna adjacent to the river were called Sheepscot (Sheepscot Farms), and for a brief period as New Dartmouth

Boundary Changes

Part of Newcastle was annexed in 1795

Part of Jefferson was annexed in 1816

Parts of Jefferson and Whitefield were annexed in 1824, and reannexed by those towns in 1907

Land was set off to Wiscasset in 1839, Dresden in 1841
