Somerset County (set off from Lincoln County to Kennebec County in 1799, to Somerset County in 1809)
Incorporated
1823 as the town of Milburn from part of Canaan; name changed in 1836 to Skowhegan

The entire region at the double bend in the Kennebec River near Skowhegan was once called Norridgewock; other regional names were Goshen, Hebron, and Kennebec (in Skowhegan)
Boundary Changes
Parts of Norridgewock were annexed in 1828 and 1856, and parts of Cornville in 1831 and 1833
The defunct town of Bloomfield (set off from Canaan and incorporated in 1814) was annexed in 1861
Part of Fairfield had been annexed to Bloomfield in 1858
