1807 from part of Ballstown Plantation (the remainder incorporated in 1809 as Whitefield)


Previous Designations

The westerly part of the town was claimed by the proprietors of the Kennebec Purchase (the Plymouth Company); Ballstown; Lincoln Academy Grant; that part bordering the lake was called Damariscotta Pond, with parts of Nobleboro


Boundary Changes

Land was set off to Alna in 1816 and 1824 (the latter tract returned in 1907 when the act was repealed)

Part of Patricktown Plantation (now Somerville) was annexed in 1829

Land was set off to Newcastle in 1858
